What will you do for your well-being today? I hav What will you do for your well-being today?

I have just done some stretches and a short energizing meditation. 20 minutes out of my day and I feel much better for it.

It can be very challenging to prioritize our own well-being, I know I find it a struggle at times.

Taking note of how good it feels once you have done it can work as a great motivator the next time you are struggling to prioritize yourself.

Hello all... I am always on the lookout for podcas Hello all...
I am always on the lookout for podcasts or books that can feed into my well-being.
I have come across this new show from Dr Rangan Chatterjee on BBC Radio 2. It is a mixture of soothing music and chat. The vibe is very relaxed, but it looks at the various things that can have a positive or negative impact on our lives, including physical and mental health.
The first guest is Katie Piper, who speaks very candidly about her life.
An interesting part of the discussion is around "non-negotiables" - the things we need to have in our lives for ourselves to help us to function as the best version of us. It got me really thinking about what this is for me. Mine are fresh air and a small amount of time by myself, everyday.
What are your "non-negotiables"? I hope you are managing to fit them in at this challenging time.

Dr Rangan Chatterjee, Sunday at 10pm on BBC Radio 2, or on the BBC Sounds app.

Good morning! Apparently today is "Blue Monday", Good morning!

Apparently today is "Blue Monday", the day which research has suggested is the toughest day of the year.

It would be very easy to allow it to become a self-fulfilling prophecy - "it's Blue Monday, I know I'm going to have a bad day, so I'm not even going to try".

But we have a choice.

Even if that choice is to not allow ourselves to be influenced by the negativity of the media. The choice might be to concentrate on ourselves instead of what is happening in the outside world.

Focusing on our own needs, in whatever small way we can, might be all we need to turn Blue Monday into your best day this week, or this month, or this year!

What can you do today to say no to Blue Monday? What choice can you make to turn this around for yourself?

This week has been challenging on many levels. I' This week has been challenging on many levels.

I'm not going to lie, I have had to dig deep.

New year, back to work, oh kids schools are shutting are they? OK!

I have really held off from pinning all my hopes on 2021 and I am glad I did. Ultimately, it is just another collection of days to get through.

One day at a time. One foot in front of the other. One task. One meal. One breath.

Break things down. You don't have to get through a month. You have to get through one day, and do the same again tomorrow.

One day at a time.

I have spoken before about how much I love to read I have spoken before about how much I love to read. It is one of the main things that people know about me to be honest because I never shut up about it πŸ˜†
However, I do not have the time in my life to read everything I want to, so I have audiobooks as a backup plan.
I decided when lockdown was announced earlier this week that I wanted to listen to something positive and life-affirming πŸ₯°
I had heard a lot about "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle so I redeemed an Audible credit and dived straight in.
Oh. my. word. What a powerful book. I think I am going to have to get a paper copy and highlight the hell out of it because in every chapter there is something I need to remember.
If you are looking to read something empowering, that is about owning your own life, I really recommend this book.

Good morning, happy Monday to you 😊 I am shari Good morning, happy Monday to you 😊

I am sharing today a little challenge I have set myself for January. I will be taking part in a yoga practice everyday of the month.

There are several reasons for this. The first is that in tier 4 my gym has closed! I am conscious of needing to keep my body moving (that's ageing for you!) and committing to something daily gives me some accountability.

The second and most important reason (to me) is about forging a stronger mind/body connection.

Our mind/body connection can easily become weakened by the hectic nature of everyday life. Much of our emotional experiencing happens in our bodies, and being able to listen to our bodies helps to protect us from overwhelm. There will be signals in our bodies that we are reaching a point of overwhelm, before our brains have registered it.

This is a great description of grounding, which I use with clients to help them to manage their emotions during therapy.

Yoga practice can be a great way of helping to improve mind/body connection. But, just sitting, and paying attention to our breathing, and how our bodies feel, is also effective.

When was the last time you sat and listened to your body? Is it something you think you could try? Let me know in the comments πŸ™‚

Maybe you are good enough as you are...

I'm re-sharing today my blog post from this time last year.

Tapping into our 'good enough' self is a powerful tool in combating the many messages we receive about self-improvement at this time of year.

I hope you find it useful. Link in bio.

I'm braving the supermarket today to get my Christ I'm braving the supermarket today to get my Christmas dinner essentials, wish me luck!

Important question - what is the best part of Christmas dinner?

I struggle with this question, as my mum is an amazing cook, everything is made from scratch, including the stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, it is the real deal!

However this year I am making the dinner, so I'm going to pick the roast potatoes, because I have been practicing all year and I'm feeling confident πŸ™Œ

Day 28 of #28daysoflockdown Here we are, the fin Day 28 of #28daysoflockdown

Here we are, the final post in my series (even if I am out by a day 😏).

When I reflect on the last 4 weeks, I am struck by how 'normal' this way of life has become. We are veterans of lock-down now, and I think that after the #lockdownsummer, 4 weeks felt like a breeze by comparison.

That is not to say it was easy. The same worries were there in the background, and I felt more powerless this time.

Posting here every day has at times been very challenging. I have to admit that there were days when my creativity had completely deserted me, and I had to dig deep to find something to say.

But it has helped me to connect with people. I have felt good about my ability to turn up everyday even when not at my best.

I hope anyone who has seen my posts will have got something from them, even if it is something very small.

And most importantly, even though I won't be posting daily, I am still here. There is a whole community of people inside this app who can be there for you if you need them.

Day 27 of #28daysoflockdown Well it turns out th Day 27 of #28daysoflockdown

Well it turns out that it isn't 28 days after all! The tier system returns tomorrow.

I'm happy to accept that I may have got the dates wrong πŸ€”, but I have got a feeling that like many things this year, the message has been a little fuzzy 😏

Where I am, we are heading into tier 3, so not much will change for us. But to those of you who are fortunate enough to be in a lower tier, I hope you feel able to make the most of your (limited) freedoms.

I will post my final day of #28daysoflockdown regardless, as I like to finish what I have started!

Day 26 of #28daysoflockdown Today is the last da Day 26 of #28daysoflockdown

Today is the last day of November, and seems to mark the watershed for the beginning of Christmas. What should be a celebration of just a couple of days has become 1/12th of the year.

I'm conscious that for many people, the focus on Christmas can make December a difficult month.

Day 24 of #28daysoflockdown I have posted previo Day 24 of #28daysoflockdown

I have posted previously about the importance of allowing myself to have non-productive days, and it got me thinking about value systems and how they influence our actions on a daily basis.

I have come to recognise that my value system is heavily influenced by my productivity. When I feel I have been really productive, I get a boost from it.

The problem with this value system is that when I am not productive for any reason, even if it is due to something outside my control, I have a noticeably lower mood.

Being aware of our value systems allows us to take action when they are not serving us well.

Do you notice anything like this in yourself?

Day 23 of #28daysoflockdown Here in Lancashire w Day 23 of #28daysoflockdown

Here in Lancashire we are going to remain in tier 3 of lockdown.

I expected as much, but it doesn't mean it is easy to have it confirmed.

I am still processing how I feel, and that is OK.

Some self-care is in order today.

Take care of yourself, and each other.
